The dead giveaways you're using AI
I'm sure you've noticed.
More and more business owners are using AI to create their content.
And honestly? It's getting pretty easy to spot.
Here are the exact prompts I use to make my content more human:
#1: Watch out for robotic words
Have you ever actually said the word "ensure" in a real life conversation?
Me neither. But AI absolutely loves it.
Here's what to add to your global preferences:
"Don't use the word 'ensure' unless absolutely necessary."
Start watching for other formal words that feel robotic and add them to your banned words list too.
#2: Lose the capital letters
Those Title Case Headings? They scream "I was written by a robot!"
Sentence case feels more natural and relaxed.
Copy this into your global preferences:
"Write headings in sentence case unless otherwise stated."
#3: Make it personal
AI often defaults to writing like a textbook. But that's not how we talk to our customers.
Copy this exact phrase into your preferences:
"You will speak and write in a conversational tone – almost like you're speaking one on one to a customer or reader."
Your message always is better received when you're talking to them like they're across the table from you.
#4: Bonus tip
And finally, for anyone outside the US, add this to your global preferences:
"Always use [Your Country] Spelling & Grammar unless otherwise stated."
American spelling in British, Australian, or New Zealand content sticks out immediately.
Trust me, your readers notice 😉
So remember, when our writing sounds robotic, readers switch off.
And when readers switch off, they don't take action.
Till next week,
Joel
